Pay-as-you-go

It has been quite amazing to me that the congress could be so hypocritical as to pass the bankruptcy reform legislation that tells all Americans, "ya'll better take responsibility for your own spending," but then keep spending taxpayers money, cutting taxes for the rich, and running up the hugest deficit in the nations history. Last year, there was a Senate proposed "pay-as-you-go" amendment which was backed by all the Democrats and four moderate Republicans. The "pay-as-you-go" plan required that all tax cuts be offset by reduction in spending elsewhere, so this plan was completely unacceptable to the Bush administration and the Republican House of Reps.

The "pay-as-you-go" amendment, which Sen.. George V. Voinovich (R-Ohio), opposed last year, but is now backing, will come up for a vote on Wednesday. Hopefully, Congress can be shamed into passing it this time after recently passing legislation that make it much harder for Americans to declare bankruptcy. After all, what is good for the goose is good for the gander, right?
