What a Mess

It is not an easy thing to balance the budget. When you are considereing the thousands of different programs out there, ranging from military to education, to social services, there is just so many things. I don't envy Congress one single bit. They have to protect the American people, equipe our troops, and care for the welfare of the most unfortunate of us. The Senate has decided not to cut funding to Medicaid. Cutting medicaid really will not lead to any savings because it just pushes the costs onto the states, so I applaud this measure. But what I don't understand is why they are doubleing the amount of tax cuts to $134 billion (A third of our current deficit). We are in tough economic times. We cannont grow our way out of it with tax cuts - it is just impossible. The only responsible thing to do is to forego the tax cuts until we are in better fiscal shape. Then, in 10 years, we can revisit the situation. Alan Greenspan is even retracting his prior support of tax cuts, calling it a "mistake." we are the first country in the history of the world to cut taxes during a time of war. We will all have to suck it up and do our part to support our country and its people.

No one likes paying taxes, but it is much better than turning this country into a bannana republic.

Congress passes $2.6 Trillion Budget
